Hi,

If we look at data, we can often find a way to "compact" or compress it.  This
the basic idea ("Gerry's" as you referred to it).

Each such method can be seen as a "theory" of the data - we can compare
different theories by seeing how well they perform...

But how do we find better and better theories?  That is search.

I've been talking about search, with compression as the "goodness" or
"fittness function".
